Design and philosophy

The Crablug 37mm

More than instruments of time, we see our watches as quiet companions, carriers of memory, markers of rhythm, and subtle expressions of personal style.

With the Crablug 37 mm, we set out to reinterpret the modern dress watch for contemporary life. Its proportions are refined, its presence understated, yet its engineering is resolutely uncompromising. In an unconventional but deliberate decision, the case is constructed to offer 100 metres of water resistance, ensuring confidence in daily wear without sacrificing elegance.

The philosophy guiding its creation was unequivocal: no compromises.

At XAVIV, the pursuit of excellence defines every decision. For this reason, we entrust the movement to La Joux-Perret, one of Switzerland’s highly respected manufactures, and pair it with straps handcrafted by Camille Fournet, renowned for its mastery of alligator leather.

La Chaux-de-Fonds

Swiss Made

Every XAVIV timepiece is Swiss Made. A distinction that reflects our uncompromising approach to watchmaking and our refusal to take shortcuts.

At the heart of the Swiss horological tradition, in La Chaux-de-Fonds, our watches are produced, assembled, and rigorously inspected.

The Beating Heart

At the heart of this XAVIV Crablug 37mm, beats the La Joux-Perret D101, presented in its highest level of finishing, the Soigné execution, adorned with meticulously crafted blued screws.

This hand-wound calibre offers a 50-hour power reserve and operates at 21,600 vibrations per hour, striking a deliberate balance between mechanical longevity and classical frequency. The act of winding is intentionally tactile, an intimate ritual through which energy is transferred directly from the wearer to the living heart of the timepiece.

The origins of the D101 are deeply rooted in Swiss watchmaking history. Its design traces back to 1971, when it was first introduced, as the Peseux 7001, by Fabrique d’Ébauches de Peseux.

The Optimal Hand Design

The hands form both the literal and spiritual centre of the dial. They are not only the instruments by which time is read, but also the elements that guide the eye and define the character of the watch.

For this reason, particular attention was devoted to their design. The hands of the Crablug 37mm feature a refined combination of polished and brushed surfaces, carefully executed to capture light with subtlety and precision. Their proportions are exact, extending precisely to the minute track to ensure clarity and balance.

A distinctive detail, specific to XAVIV, is the use of a blind-top minute hand. By concealing the pinion opening, visual purity is preserved at the centre of the dial. Although this solution significantly increases manufacturing complexity, it reflects our belief that true refinement lies in the details that need not be seen at the first glance.

STONE DIALS, LACQUER AND BRUSHING

THE UNIQUE FEATURES OF OUR DIALS

The dials of the Crablug 37mm reflect our dedication to material integrity, exploration and artisanal execution.

With this collection, we introduce six distinct dial variations, four of which are crafted from natural stone. Each stone dial is carefully cut, stabilised, and lapped to an approximate thickness of 0.5 mm. This process demands exceptional precision and specialised expertise.

By their very nature, no two stone dials are ever identical. Variations in structure and pattern ensure that each example is unique. This individuality is especially evident in the malachite, lapis lazuli, and tiger’s eye dials, where the organic formations of the stone lend every watch its own unmistakable character.

Completing the collection is a stealth onyx dial, alongside lacquered eggshell and finely sunburst brushed salmon executions. Though differing in material and finish, each dial is unified by the same uncompromising standards of balance, legibility, and refinement.

The strap & Buckle

France's Finest Leathers

Each XAVIV Crablug 37mm is paired with a strap crafted by Camille Fournet, widely regarded as one of the finest strap makers in the world.

The Crablug is delivered as standard on a 19 mm large-scale alligator strap, fully lined with round-scale alligator leather. Valued for both its durability and its rich texture, alligator leather enhances the wearing experience, becoming more personal with every year of use. At XAVIV, we consider the strap an integral part of the watch, inseparable from comfort, balance, and character.

Complementing the strap is our proprietary buckle design. Its refined oval geometry echoes a recurring design motif found throughout the collection. The branding is discreetly placed on the underside, present, yet never ostentatious. A XAVIV watch, after all, is a quiet companion.

the packaging

A Good Place to Store your Watch

Each XAVIV timepiece is presented in a custom-crafted burlwood box, designed with the same restraint and attention to detail as the watch itself.

The box features a refined oval silhouette, a recurring design language found throughout the XAVIV collection.

Selected for its rich grain and natural depth, burlwood offers warmth, strength, and individuality. No two boxes are ever identical. Crafted within the European Union, the box reflects our commitment to responsible production, proximity, and enduring quality.

Beyond presentation, it is conceived as a functional storage case, offering a secure and elegant place to house your timepiece when not worn. As with every element of XAVIV, refinement is expressed quietly, through proportion, material, and purpose.
